With the live stream of at least one NBS League Pass game per week in virtual reality throughout the 2016-2017 season, the NBA becomes the first professional sports league to offer a regular schedule of live games delivered in VR. To make this happen, NextVR becomes the Official League Pass VR Partner of the NBA.
All 30 teams will appear in at least one of the 25 games, with the first game – available for free –kicking off the schedule on Oct. 27 when the Sacramento Kings host the San Antonio Spurs at the Golden 1 Center.
Although this is exciting news, it does bring one caveat. For now, sports fans will need the Samsung Gear VR headset and a compatible Samsung smartphone to experience the free preview. Those who do have the gear can access the NBA Channel within the NextVR app.
The NBA VR experience will come with dedicated announcers, multiple camera angles and optimized graphics. Viewers will be transported into the immersive world to live the moment as if they were there. Game breaks will be filled with in-venue entertainment, behind-the-scenes footage from the arena and VR-specific commentary.
How to Experience the Free Preview on Oct. 27
Fans with a subscription to NBA LEAGUE PASS can watch the virtual reality experience featuring the Sacramento Kings vs. San Antonio Spurs game by downloading the free NextVR app for Samsung Gear VR, which is available in the Oculus Home app store, and accessing the NBA Channel which launches Oct. 27.
